tiomanLegend hasit that a dragon princess was flying across the South China Sea to meet asuitor when she fell in love with the splendor of Tioman island. She chose tosettle there permanently rather than continue onwards to her rendezvous. Notsurprisingly, Tioman was chosen as the mythical Bali Hai in the film version ofthe Rodgers and Hammerstein musical ‘South Pacific’. Yet despite all the freepublicity, the island remains fairly secluded and ready to be discovered.

Tioman islocated off the East coast of Peninsular Malaysia. It is part of the TiomanMarine Park, which comprises a cluster of protected islands that became anational marine reserve in 1995. Although Tioman is the largest and mostdeveloped of these volcanic islands it is still relatively small, measuring just30 miles long and 9 miles wide.

The climateon the island is typically tropical, warm and humid all year round.  While

life moves slowly on all tropical islands, many say that time decided to stop entirely on Tioman. There are no cars on“Bali Hai”, only taxi boats, and the people are warm and welcoming.Furthermore, the island is marked with beautiful white beaches, clear blueseas, a tropical rainforest and dramatic mountain peaks that run down the spineof the island. It is hard not to fall in love with this peaceful haven.

tiomanEach ofTioman`s coastal villages have different and unique atmospheres to discover; thelarger ones being Salang, Tekek, Genting, Paya and Juara. Tioman has excellentcoral reefs and is perfect for sailors looking to indulge a passion for divingand snorkeling. If the mood takes you there is also an excellent golf course atthe Berjaya Tioman Beach Golf & Spa Resort with breathtaking views out overthe sparkling sea.
